Chester & Hester's Dino-Rama closed on January 13, 2025, beginning the phased dismantling of DinoLand U.S.A. around DINOSAUR while the ride kept operating.
Disney announced on August 11, 2024 that DinoLand U.S.A. would be replaced by an 11-acre land called Tropical Americas, set in the town of Pueblo Esperanza, with an Indiana Jones attraction taking DINOSAUR's place.
McDonald's ended its sponsorship of the attraction in 2008 after ten years.
The attraction was renamed DINOSAUR in 2000 to tie in with Disney Animation's feature film of the same name, and scenes from the movie were added to the pre-show.
Countdown to Extinction opened with Disney's Animal Kingdom on April 22, 1998, carrying riders back through time aboard Time Rover enhanced motion vehicles at the fictional Dino Institute in DinoLand U.S.A. under a McDonald's sponsorship.
