Universal announced on April 11, 2023 that Poseidon's Fury would close permanently, giving May 9 as the last day guests could experience it and saying the space would be prepared for "exciting new experiences for our guests."

Attractions Magazine, April 11, 2023: "The Poseidon's Fury walk-through attraction ... will close on May 10, 2023" and "The last day to experience Poseidon's Fury will be May 9, 2023." Orlando Park Stop, same day, reports team members were notified the night before, so the internal notice fell on or about April 10. No replacement was named in the announcement.

Poseidon's Fury reopened in March 2022 after a refurbishment that repainted the exterior temple, replaced pipe work for the interior and exterior water features and improved several effects.

This beat is why the 2023 closure is not a COVID-era closure: the show returned after the March 2020 park-wide shutdown and ran a further 14 months. Single-source (Orlando Park Stop) and month-level precision only; no exact reopening day was given.

Roughly half of The Lost Continent, including the Merlinwood section, was removed and rethemed for the original Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which opened in 2010, leaving Poseidon's Fury as one of the shrunken land's few remaining attractions.

Changed2001#

Universal rewrote the show in 2001 based on guest polling data, replacing The Keeper and the Zeus storyline with an archaeologist guide named Taylor and a new villain, Darkenon, and recasting Poseidon as benevolent.

The second and final version, continuing in the same building with the same water tunnel and transforming finale room; Wikipedia notes the effects arsenal remained intact, so this was a re-story rather than a new attraction. The villain is rendered Darkenon by Wikipedia and Lord Darkennon by Attractions Magazine. From this point the show was commonly billed simply as Poseidon's Fury.

Poseidon's Fury: Escape from the Lost City opened with Universal's Islands of Adventure as a walk-through special-effects show in the Lost City section of The Lost Continent, in which a guide called The Keeper recounted a battle between Zeus and Poseidon before revealing himself as Zeus.

Opening-day attraction; the park opened May 28, 1999. Poseidon was voiced by Jeremy Irons. Effects included a walk-through water vortex tunnel, water projection screens, fire and water effects and a set-transformation finale. Wikipedia's former-attractions list says only that it opened with the park in 1999; Orlando Informer supplies the day.
