Test Track opened inside the retained World of Motion show building, soft-opening on December 19, 1998 and officially opening on March 17, 1999 after testing delays.
World of Motion closed permanently on January 2, 1996 after just over thirteen years of operation.
In November 1995 Epcot announced that World of Motion would close and be transformed into a new attraction called Test Track.
General Motors' long-term sponsorship contract for World of Motion lapsed in 1992, after which the company agreed only to one-year renewals for the attraction.
World of Motion opened on October 1, 1982 as an opening-day attraction of EPCOT Center, presented by General Motors, carrying guests in four-to-six-person Omnimover vehicles through Audio-Animatronic scenes tracing the history of transportation.
