Disney announced that EPCOT's multi-year reimagining was complete following the opening of CommuniCore Hall, without building the PLAY! Pavilion it had announced in 2019 for the former Wonders of Life building.

The Fitness Fairgrounds closed permanently on New Year's Day 2007 when the Wonders of Life pavilion locked its doors for the last time.

The pavilion's final operating phase ran November 26, 2006 through January 1, 2007. The building shut as a unit, taking Body Wars, Cranium Command, The Making of Me and the Fitness Fairgrounds activities with it, and none of them reopened.

Disney moved the Wonders of Life pavilion to seasonal operation, so the Fitness Fairgrounds was open to guests on only a limited number of days each year.

From this point the pavilion opened only during selected busy periods rather than daily. Its final seasonal phase ran November 26, 2006 through January 1, 2007.

Metropolitan Life Insurance Company ended its sponsorship of the Wonders of Life pavilion, and the pavilion never took on a replacement sponsor.

MetLife had sponsored the pavilion since it opened in 1989, and its name was on a Fairgrounds exhibit outright in the Met Lifestyle Revue. Sources describe the end of the sponsorship as the start of the pavilion's gradual decline, though it continued to operate normally for the next two years.

Fitness Fairgrounds opened as the interactive exhibit area under the dome of the MetLife-sponsored Wonders of Life pavilion when the pavilion opened to the public at EPCOT Center.

The Fairgrounds was the main floor of the golden dome, filled with hands-on health and fitness activities: Coach's Corner (pros judging your baseball, golf and tennis swings), Wondercycles, the Met Lifestyle Revue health survey, the Sensory Funhouse, Goofy About Health, Frontiers of Medicine and the 100-seat AnaComical Theatre. It sat alongside the pavilion's three headline attractions - Body Wars, Cranium Command and The Making of Me. A grand-opening ceremony followed on October 30, 1989. Some later attraction listings treat Fitness Fairgrounds as a single activity rather than as the umbrella area.
