The Ink & Paint Shop opened May 31, 2012 as the gift shop in Animation Hall (the main lobby building) during the first (Finding Nemo) phase of Disney's Art of Animation Resort, themed to the animation ink-and-paint process with wall spaces resembling oversized paint jars.
No operating venue preceded the shop; the Animation Hall building that houses it was repurposed from the never-completed 'Legendary Hall' shell of Pop Century's 'Legendary Years' second phase, whose construction began in 1999 and was suspended after the post-9/11 tourism decline, then sat abandoned before being renamed Animation Hall and reopening as part of Art of Animation in 2012.
