The Boneyard opened with Universal Studios Florida on June 7, 1990 as an outdoor display of oversized props and vehicles from Universal films and television productions.

Opening-day attraction in Production Central. Orlando Informer describes it as a collection of props that were too large to put into storage, including sharks from Jaws, the Ecto-1, and a Jurassic Park T-rex and jeep.
