After closing in early February 2018 for a major refurbishment (with a temporary Midnattssol Bakeri kiosk serving favorites during the work), Kringla reopened around the start of September 2018 having more than doubled in size by absorbing adjacent Puffin's Roost retail space, plus two new ovens and a new coffee maker.

Following the 2020 pandemic park closure, Kringla reopened on September 27, 2020 with a limited menu (School Bread included) before returning to daily/regular operation on November 10, 2020.

Kringla Bakeri og Kafe opened with EPCOT's Norway pavilion in 1988 (pavilion grand opening June 3, 1988), serving Norwegian pastries such as the custard-filled, coconut-dipped School Bread, sweet pretzels (kringla), and open-faced salmon sandwiches.
