Disney confirmed that Rivers of Light: We Are One was permanently closed and would not return when Disney's Animal Kingdom reopened, retiring it alongside Primeval Whirl at the same park and Stitch's Great Escape at Magic Kingdom.

Positive evidence against the COVID trap: the July 16, 2020 report states that "it was decided today that this would be a permanent decision, and Rivers of Light: We Are One will not return." No replacement was announced for any of the three attractions at the time.

The show returned the night after the original version's final May 23 performance as "Rivers of Light: We Are One," weaving in imagery from Disneynature films and Disney animated features including Brother Bear and The Lion King.

The new version debuted at 9 p.m. and was accompanied by Tree of Life Awakenings drawn from Simba's story. Wikipedia's infobox gives May 24, 2019 and lists the original version as closing May 23, 2019; the Laughing Place announcement gives only "Memorial Day Weekend 2019".

Rivers of Light officially opened as Disney's Animal Kingdom's first nighttime spectacular, using floating lotus barges, water screens, projections and lights on the Discovery River lagoon.

Seating was split between two viewing areas, one in Asia near Expedition Everest and one in DinoLand U.S.A. near Finding Nemo - The Musical.

Disney postponed the show's planned April 22, 2016 debut, saying work on it was continuing, and delayed the rest of Animal Kingdom's new nighttime lineup with it.

The same announcement delayed Tree of Life Awakenings, nighttime Kilimanjaro Safaris and other evening entertainment; Disney said it would share timing by mid- to late-May. The limited-run The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic covered the venue from May 28 to September 5, 2016.
