Dinosaur Gertie's Ice Cream of Extinction opened as an opening-day ice cream stand at Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney's Hollywood Studios), a soft-serve stand built into a giant 1930s 'California Crazy' style dinosaur on the bank of Echo Lake.

Zone Update
A crack near Gertie's waterline reopened in February 2026 and a section of her tail detached and fell into Echo Lake, prompting Disney to patch and repaint the tail again while the ice cream stand stayed open.

Over summer 2024 Gertie underwent a refurbishment that included reconstruction of her tail (wrapped in tarps starting June 2024) and a full-body repaint to match the new tail color.

Dinosaur Gertie's reopened in July 2021 after being closed in the wake of the COVID-19 park shutdown.
